For many teeth that's finished in one visit; some need a second appointment to finish and to place the permanent crown, which is also done here. Oral sedation or nitrous oxide are available if the idea of the procedure is worse than the toothache; say so on the phone.

Is a root canal painful?
The procedure itself is done under full local anesthetic; what most people feel is the relief of pressure being released. The days before it, with an infected nerve, are the painful part. Some tenderness for a day or two afterward is normal and responds to over-the-counter pain relievers.
Can't I just take antibiotics instead?
Antibiotics can calm an infection for a while, but they can't reach the dead tissue inside the tooth, so the infection returns. The root canal removes the source. If you're already on antibiotics from an urgent care, keep taking them and still call (770) 802-2220.
Root canal or extraction, which is better for me?
It depends on how much healthy tooth is left and what you want long term. Saving the tooth keeps your bite and your neighboring teeth where they are; extraction is simpler and cheaper up front but usually leads to a replacement later. Our dentist shows you both prices in writing and lets you choose.
Will I need a crown afterward?
Usually, for back teeth. A tooth without its nerve becomes more brittle, and a crown protects it from cracking under chewing pressure. Front teeth sometimes get by with a filling. Either way, the crown is placed in this office, not somewhere else.
